This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, nine countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Afghanistan, the Philippines, Israel, Hong Kong, and Pakistan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, June 23, 2022, amounted to 57, with weekly growth exceeding 50 percent.
Afghanistan ranks first, with a 400 percent weekly increase in deaths. In this country, Worldometer recorded five deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's report of only one death.
The Philippines follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 200 percent. The number of deaths reported in this country was 15, while the previous week recorded five deaths.
Rounding out the top five are Israel with 29 deaths (up 93.33%), Hong Kong with five deaths (up 66.67%), and Pakistan with three deaths (up 50%).
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan with 1,077 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 8.18% compared to the previous week. Following that, Thailand had the highest number with 138 deaths (down 6.12%), Japan with 135 deaths (down 2.17%), India with 111 deaths (up 38.75%), and South Korea with 73 deaths (down 22.34%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 1,698. This accounts for 21.44 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 7,919. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,797.
