In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Uruguay, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Brazil. The total deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, December 29, 2022, amounted to 1,537, with a weekly growth exceeding 23.15 percent.
Uruguay recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 150 percent. Worldometer recorded 10 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's four deaths.
Next is Mexico, which recorded 125.71 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. However, daily death data shows a 10.9% decrease compared to the previous day. Deaths in Costa Rica increased by 62.5%, Colombia by 50.94%, and Brazil by 1,197 (up 23.15%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,398 deaths. Reported deaths in the US decreased by 30.86% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 1,197 deaths (up 23.15%), Mexico 237 deaths (up 125.71%), Canada 216 deaths (up 3.35%), and Chile 163 deaths (up 1.88%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days reached 3,551. This accounts for 35.18 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 10,093. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,830.
