This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Eight countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 11 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico, Suriname, and Guatemala. A total of 396 deaths were recorded in these five countries for the week ending June 19, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 36.49 percent.
Ecuador recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 1,133.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 37 deaths in the country, up from three the previous week.
Guyana followed with a 500 percent weekly increase in deaths. Yesterday's daily death toll in Guyana was six. Mexico recorded 249 deaths (up 57.59%), Suriname saw a 50% increase in deaths, and Guatemala a 36.49% increase.
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 1,790 deaths—a 12.58% increase compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 961 deaths (down 11.83%), Mexico with 249 deaths (up 57.59%), Canada with 218 deaths (down 19.85%), and Chile with 140 deaths (up 15.7%).
A total of 3,665 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 43.26 percent of the global Covid-19 death toll of 8,472. The number of deaths in the Americas is up from the previous seven-day total of 3,505.
