Riau Islands (Kepri) has the highest level of public health. This is reflected in the fact that only 1 in 20 residents experience health complaints.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the morbidity rate in Kepri was 5.06% in 2021. This figure is lower than the national morbidity rate of 13.04% and is also the lowest compared to other provinces.
The next lowest morbidity rate was in Papua at 6.54%, followed by Jambi at 7.16%, Central Kalimantan at 8.27%, and Maluku at 8.31%.
West Kalimantan also had a morbidity rate of 8.44%, followed by North Sumatra at 8.78%, West Papua at 8.89%, and East Kalimantan and North Maluku at 8.97% and 9.53% respectively. Seven out of ten provinces with the lowest morbidity rates are located in eastern Indonesia.
A lower morbidity rate indicates an improvement in the level of public health in a region. Conversely, a higher morbidity rate reflects a worsening level of public health in a region.
