COVID-19 statistics in the Americas this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to a continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 10 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Paraguay. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, July 19, 2022, amounted to 612, with a weekly growth exceeding 37.5 percent.
Argentina recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 90 percent. Worldometer recorded 57 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported 30 deaths.
Colombia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 62.07 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was recorded at 94. Deaths in Ecuador increased by 40%, deaths in Mexico increased by 39.39%, and Paraguay recorded 33 deaths (a 37.5% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,752 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 6.7% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil recorded 1,749 deaths (up 2.1%), Mexico recorded 414 deaths (up 39.39%), Chile recorded 268 deaths (up 10.29%), and Peru recorded 140 deaths (up 20.69%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were recorded at 4,790. This accounts for 45 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 10,644. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,513 deaths.
