The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.92 million cases by Wednesday, December 28, 2022. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 0.95 percent. GISAID recorded 2.05 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.07 percent compared to the previous day.
The United Kingdom follows with a 0.5 percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. Daily figures show a 0.1 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 1.36 million.
Furthermore, the number of Omicron cases in Germany increased by 1.07 percent to 503,340 cases compared to the previous week; France recorded 315,030 cases (up 0.73 percent); and Japan recorded 314,040 cases (up 3.81 percent).
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia, as of today, stands at 31,336, down 0.15 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continuously increased.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
