Indonesia recorded an additional 34,754 recovered COVID-19 cases on Monday, July 12, 2021, marking the highest single-day recovery count since the start of the pandemic in the country.
The highest number of recoveries came from Jakarta, with 20,478 cases, representing 58.7% of the total additional recoveries that day.
West Java followed with 4,449 additional recoveries, followed by Central Java with 2,730.
East Java, Yogyakarta, and Riau followed with 1,669, 782, and 496 additional recoveries respectively.
The total number of COVID-19 recoveries in Indonesia reached 2,119,478. This translates to a recovery rate of 82.5%, lower than the global average of 91.5%.
This lower recovery rate is concurrent with a surge in COVID-19 cases and high hospital bed occupancy rates. Many infected patients struggle to receive optimal treatment due to near-full hospital capacity.
In response, the government implemented Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM Darurat) in Java and Bali from July 3rd to 20th, 2021, to curb the spread of the virus. Additionally, hospital bed capacity in Java was increased by approximately 1.6%, reaching 79.7% occupancy.
The government urges the public to adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility are also strongly encouraged.
