This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while ten others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Lebanon, Iran (Islamic Republic), Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, February 22, 2023, was 584, with a weekly growth rate above -14.18 percent.
Lebanon recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 75 percent. Worldometer recorded 14 deaths in the country, an increase from the eight reported the previous week.
This is followed by Iran (Islamic Republic) with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 45 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was recorded at 29. Taiwan recorded 415 deaths (up 4.27%), Saudi Arabia saw an 8.33% decrease in deaths, and South Korea saw a 14.18% decrease.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 886 deaths. This represents a 23.69% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, Taiwan recorded 415 deaths (up 4.27%), South Korea 115 deaths (down 14.18%), the Philippines 71 deaths (down 23.66%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) 29 deaths (up 45%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 1,612. This accounts for 35.74 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 4,510. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,922.
