This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 16 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), Afghanistan, Pakistan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, December 13, 2022, was 286, with a weekly growth rate exceeding 43.64 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 1,200 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 13 deaths, a 27.78 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Afghanistan follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 400 percent. The number of deaths reported was five, compared to one the previous week.
Rounding out the top five, deaths in Pakistan increased by 50%, deaths in Thailand increased by 44.59%, and deaths in Hong Kong increased by 43.64%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,368 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 19.89% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 330 deaths (down 3.79%), Indonesia recorded 229 deaths (down 28.66%), Taiwan recorded 210 deaths (down 10.64%), and Hong Kong recorded 158 deaths (up 43.64%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 2,719. This accounts for 30.86 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,812. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,537 deaths.
