European Covid-19 death toll statistics this week show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where the death toll continued to rise. This week, 11 countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 20 other countries recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Malta, Ireland, Lithuania, Montenegro, and the Netherlands. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, June 17, 2022, amounted to 28, with weekly growth exceeding 100 percent.
Malta recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 400 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded five deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported one death.
Ireland followed with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 200 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at three. Deaths in Lithuania increased by 166.67%, Montenegro recorded two deaths (up 100%), and deaths in the Netherlands increased by 100%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Russia with 467 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 11.55% compared to the previous week. Following with the highest numbers, Italy recorded 384 deaths (down 8.13%), Germany recorded 344 deaths (down 12.47%), the UK recorded 328 deaths (down 16.54%), and France recorded 279 deaths (down 1.76%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was recorded at 2,784. This accounts for 31.2 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,923. The death toll in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,017 deaths.
