The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that 112,588 international tourists visited Jakarta in October 2022. This figure shows a slight increase of 1.30% compared to the previous month (month-to-month/m-t-m).
The number of international tourist visits to the capital city increased again after a decline in September 2022. In September, only 111,139 international tourists visited Jakarta, down from 121,438 in August 2022, the highest number since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Compared to October 2021, the number of international tourist visits to Jakarta increased by 719.95% (year-on-year/yoy). In October 2021, only 13,731 international tourists visited Jakarta.
"This increase (in international tourist visits to Jakarta) is in line with various government efforts to recover the tourism sector, including improving quality tourism and enhancing amenities and attractions at tourist destinations," according to the BPS report released on Thursday (1/12).
Based on arrival points, 112,527 international tourists arrived in Jakarta via Soekarno-Hatta Airport. This figure is up 1.35% compared to September 2022. Meanwhile, the number of international tourists arriving via Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport was only 61, a decrease of 42.45% (m-t-m) in October 2022.
In October 2022, the most significant number of foreign tourists visiting Jakarta came from Malaysia, with 15,125 visits, representing 13.43% of the total visits. Singapore was second with 9,624 visits (8.55%), followed by China with 8,366 visits (7.43%), South Korea with 5,559 visits (4.94%), and Japan with 5,331 visits (4.73%).
Cumulatively, from January to October 2022, 696,669 international tourists visited Jakarta. This number is up 733.67% (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc), significantly exceeding the same period in 2021, which saw only 83,567 visits.
