The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that 53.61% of married young women and their partners were using family planning (KB) methods in March 2023.
Meanwhile, 33.96% had never used contraception, and 12.43% had used KB in the past.
Among those using contraception, the most common method was injections, at 62.42%.
This was followed by pills (13.99%); implants (11.40%); and IUDs (7.71%).
Among young men, 1.86% used condoms, followed by the rhythm method (1.31%).
The least used method among married young people was male sterilization (vasectomy), at 0.04%.

Contraceptive methods used by family planning participants are categorized into two: long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and short-acting reversible contraception (non-LARC).
Quoting the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), BPS explains that LARC methods have higher effectiveness in preventing pregnancy compared to non-LARC methods.
LARC methods include male sterilization/vasectomy, female sterilization/tubectomy, implants, and IUDs. Non-LARC methods include pills, injections, and condoms.
"The high preference among married young women for non-LARC methods indicates that the use of LARC methods still needs to be improved," wrote BPS in its 2023 Indonesian Youth Statistics report.
