This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, seven countries recorded an increase in deaths, while two others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Guatemala, Uruguay, Chile, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States. The total deaths in these five countries as of Wednesday, January 11, 2023, amounted to 1,678, with a weekly growth exceeding 21.64 percent.
Guatemala recorded the highest increase in deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 155.56 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 23 deaths, a 35.29 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following Guatemala is Uruguay, with a weekly increase in deaths reaching 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in this country was recorded at 16. Deaths in Chile increased by 40.31%, Trinidad and Tobago recorded eight deaths (up 33.33%), and deaths in the United States increased by 21.64%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,450 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 21.64% compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil reported 796 deaths (down 17.77%), Chile 181 deaths (up 40.31%), Mexico 136 deaths (up 7.94%), and Peru 130 deaths (down 5.8%).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 2,749. This accounts for 30.65 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 8,968. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,584.
