The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.94 million cases by Friday, December 23, 2022. Hungary reported the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 66.67 percent. GISAID recorded 120 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 66.67 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Oman, which recorded a 33.87 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 14.48 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Guatemala with 1,800 additional Omicron cases (up 22.53%), Spain with 86,801 additional Omicron cases (up 12.91%), and Algeria with 424 additional Omicron cases (up 9.84%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 31,087, an increase of 0.82 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
