This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, three countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while six others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of April 9, 2023, amounted to 165, with a weekly growth rate above -1.89 percent.
Hong Kong ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 100 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded six deaths, a 14.29 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is India, which recorded 86.67 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. For daily data, deaths in this country increased by 25.37% compared to yesterday. Deaths in Israel increased by 18.75%, deaths in Saudi Arabia decreased by 0%, and deaths in South Korea decreased by 1.89%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 142 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 33.64% compared to the previous week. Following that, India had the second highest number of deaths with 84 (up 86.67%), South Korea with 52 deaths (down 1.89%), the Philippines with 32 deaths (down 48.39%), and Indonesia with 27 deaths (down 6.9%).
Total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 375. This accounts for 15.18 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 2,470. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 441 deaths.
