The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2 million cases by Sunday, March 13, 2022. Brunei Darussalam recorded the highest weekly increase in Omicron cases, with a growth of 453.8 percent. GISAID reported 875 new Omicron cases in the country, representing a 38.89 percent daily increase compared to the previous day.
Next is Slovakia, which recorded an 81.6 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 1.62 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Iran (Islamic Republic) saw a 51.72 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 176 cases compared to the previous week. Lithuania reported a 49.19 percent increase, totaling 4,167 cases compared to the previous week, while Germany recorded 109,890 new Omicron cases (a 36.74% increase).
In Indonesia, as of today, there are 8,047 Omicron cases, a 2.65 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
