The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 127,300 visits from foreign tourists to Indonesia in August 2021. This figure is down 6% compared to the previous month, which saw 135,400 visits.
Compared to the same period last year, foreign tourist visits decreased by 21.19%. In August 2020, there were 161,500 foreign tourist visits to Indonesia.
Cumulatively, foreign tourist visits to the country reached 1.1 million times from January to August 2021. This figure is down 69.2% compared to the same period the previous year, which saw 3.4 million visits.
In August 2021, the most foreign tourist visits to Indonesia originated from Timor Leste, namely 75,700 visits. Malaysia was second with 39,800 foreign tourist visits.
There were 2,400 foreign tourist visits from Papua New Guinea. Meanwhile, visits from other countries reached 9,400.
From January to August 2021, the most foreign tourist visits to Indonesia originated from Timor Leste, namely 557,680. There were 331,500 visits from Malaysia.
Then, there were 38,620 foreign tourist visits from China. Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits from Papua New Guinea and Singapore were 18,850 and 15,100 respectively.
Based on mode of transportation, foreign tourist visits by air transport totaled 1,610 times in August 2021. This figure is down 77.57% compared to the previous month, which reached 7,180 visits.
Furthermore, the number of foreign tourist visits using sea transport was 35,900 times in August of this year. The figure is down 4.93% compared to the previous month, which was 37,770 visits.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits using land transport were recorded at 89,800 times in August 2021. This figure is down 0.77% compared to July 2021, which reached 90,500 visits.
