Indonesian households utilize a variety of water sources for daily drinking needs. Bottled water is one of the most common.
This is recorded in the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in March 2023.
BPS data shows that the majority, or 40.64%, of Indonesian households use branded bottled water or refilled water as their drinking water source. Then, 17.07% of households obtain drinking water from boreholes or pumps, 15.26% from protected wells, and 12.17% from protected or unprotected springs.
Households whose primary drinking water source is piped water (tap water), surface water or rainwater, and unprotected wells represent less than 10%.
BPS also notes that at least 91.72% of Indonesian households had access to a safe drinking water source in March 2023.
By region, DKI Jakarta has the highest proportion of households with access to a safe drinking water source, at 99.42%.
Following are Bali with 98.31%, Yogyakarta Special Region with 96.69%, and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) with 96.03%.
