Indonesia's Healthcare Worker Mortality Rate Reaches 6.5%

Based on data from last Thursday (May 7th), Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 989 healthcare workers worldwide. The mortality rate is 0.37% of the total cases.

During the same period, at least 55 Indonesian healthcare workers died from Covid-19. According to Irwandy, Head of the Department of Hospital Management at Hasanuddin University, the mortality rate for Indonesian healthcare workers reached 6.5%. This means that for every 100 deaths, approximately 6-7 are healthcare workers.

Besides Indonesia, the United States (US) and the United Kingdom have healthcare worker mortality rates below 1%. Their respective rates are 0.16% and 0.5%. However, both countries have a higher number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases than Indonesia: the US with 1.5 million cases and the UK with 233,200 cases.
