The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) categorized foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in 2022 by age group. This categorization aims to understand the demographic characteristics of foreign tourists visiting the country.
According to the report titled *Statistics of Foreign Tourist Visits 2022*, the dominant age group of foreign tourists is the productive age group of 25-54 years.
Specifically, the largest group is the 25-34 age group, representing 23.61% of total foreign tourist visits.
The second largest group is the 35-44 age group at 20.87%, followed by the 45-54 age group at 17.27%. The remaining percentages are shown in the graph.
Based on nationality, the productive age group generally constitutes more than 50% of visitors from each region, with the highest percentage from Africa at 72.39%.
Asia (excluding ASEAN countries) accounts for 68.10%, and the Middle East for 68.04%.
Meanwhile, the lowest distribution of productive-age foreign tourist visits comes from Oceania at 50.45%. However, compared to other regions, Oceania has the highest proportion of elderly foreign tourists (55 years and older) at 32.47%.
"This indicates that Indonesia is an attractive tourist destination for elderly foreign tourists from Oceania, partly because Indonesia is a close neighbor to Oceania, especially Australia," wrote BPS in its report.
