This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, four countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 21 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Thursday, September 15, 2022, was 102, with a weekly growth rate above 0 percent.
Kazakhstan recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 400 percent. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, an increase from the one death reported the previous week.
Next is Bahrain, which recorded 200 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported three more deaths than the previous week's single death. Deaths in Hong Kong increased by 17.91%, deaths in Vietnam increased by 12.5%, and deaths in Bangladesh showed no change (0%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan, with 1,501 deaths. This represents a 25.36% decrease compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported 340 deaths (down 29.9%), the Philippines reported 264 deaths (down 25.21%), Taiwan reported 214 deaths (down 5.73%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 173 deaths (down 20.64%).
The total number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days was 3,154. This accounts for 29.96 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, which totaled 10,529. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which totaled 4,087 deaths.
