This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, six countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 21 other countries recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bahrain, Singapore, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, September 12, 2022, amounted to 129, with weekly growth exceeding 20 percent.
Bahrain recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded three deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's single death.
Singapore follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 166.67 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was recorded at eight. Deaths in Azerbaijan increased by 129.41%, Afghanistan recorded seven deaths (up 40%), and Hong Kong recorded 72 deaths (up 20%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 1,768 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 14.13% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea recorded 415 deaths (down 20.8%), the Philippines recorded 326 deaths (down 5.23%), Taiwan recorded 227 deaths (up 3.65%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded 207 deaths (down 22.47%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 3,650. This accounts for 33.87 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,777 deaths. The death toll in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 4,255 deaths.
