Cipto Mangunkusumo National Central Hospital (RSUPN) or RSCM has received 49 children with atypical progressive acute kidney injury (GGAKPA) between January and October 20, 2022.
Of that number, 31 children who were hospitalized have died. Therefore, the mortality rate due to this acute kidney injury is 63%.
RSCM's Director Lies Dina Liastuti stated that one of the reasons for the high mortality rate of GGAKPA is the rapid progression of the disease. Furthermore, a cure for this acute kidney injury has not yet been found because its cause remains unknown.
"Eleven children are still being treated: 10 children are still in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and 1 is still in the emergency unit," said Dina in a press conference as reported by *Katadata.co.id*, Thursday (October 20, 2022).
Based on data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), 206 cases of acute kidney failure were reported until October 18, 2022. Of that number, 99 people (48%) died.
Jakarta and West Java are the regions with the highest number of reported cases of acute kidney failure, with 40 children each. This is followed by East Java with 25 cases and West Sumatra with 21 cases.
