The United States (US) is the largest donor of Covid-19 vaccines. According to data from the Duke Global Health Innovation Center, the US pledged 1.18 billion vaccine doses to various institutions and countries.
Of that amount, the US has delivered 171.8 million doses. This represents 15% of the total pledged Covid-19 vaccine donations.
The largest portion of US vaccine donations—1 billion doses—was pledged to the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) program initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO). The US also donated 25 million doses to the African Union, 7 million doses to Asian countries, and 6 million doses to Central and South America.
The European Union ranks second, pledging 135.2 million doses, of which 33.8 million (25%) have been delivered.
France committed to donating 120.3 million doses, with 9.6 million (8%) already delivered.
China pledged 102.5 million doses, with 47 million (46%) already delivered.
Germany committed to donating 100.1 million doses, with 9.84 million (10%) delivered.
The United Kingdom has delivered 3 million doses (3%) of the 100 million doses pledged. Japan has contributed 21.46 million doses (30%) of the 71.89 million doses pledged.
Italy and Canada pledged 45 million and 43.4 million doses respectively. Italy has delivered 1.39 million doses (3%), while Canada has delivered 2.69 million doses (6%).
Spain pledged 37.5 million doses, with 5.45 million (15%) delivered.
Even with the progress of vaccination programs, the public is still urged to practice mask-wearing, social distancing, and handwashing with soap. Adherence to these 3M health protocols can prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
