Indonesia Has Second Highest Number of Active COVID-19 Cases in Asia (July 5, 2021)

As of July 5, 2021, active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 295,200, a 13,500 increase from the previous day. This makes Indonesia the second highest country with active Covid-19 cases in Asia.

India still holds the first rank with 489,100 active cases. Following Indonesia, the next highest active case counts are Iran with 243,800 and Bangladesh with 95,900. Also in the list of highest active cases are Iraq with 88,700, Turkey with 79,900, Malaysia with 67,700, Thailand with 63,500, the Philippines with 52,700, and Afghanistan with 46,200 active cases.

Up to July 5, 2021, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 2.3 million. This comprises 1.9 million recovered patients and 60,600 deaths.

Indonesia is currently implementing Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in six provinces on Java Island and Bali until July 20, 2021. In addition, the government is intensifying vaccination efforts as one way to build herd immunity.

Not only the government, but the public is also expected to be disciplined in implementing health protocols (prokes) to break the chain of virus transmission.
