This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, nine countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are India, Cyprus, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Hong Kong. The total deaths in these five countries as of Monday, November 7, 2022, amounted to 221, with a weekly growth exceeding 42.37 percent.
India recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 144.68 percent. Worldometer recorded 115 deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's reported 47 deaths.
Cyprus follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 100 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll was six. Deaths in Afghanistan increased by 66.67%, deaths in Azerbaijan increased by 57.14%, and Hong Kong recorded 84 deaths (a 42.37% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan, with 455 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 1.34% compared to the previous week. Following that, Japan recorded 387 deaths (up 6.91%), the Philippines recorded 245 deaths (down 3.54%), Indonesia recorded 236 deaths (up 40.48%), and South Korea recorded 223 deaths (up 32.74%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days reached 1,861. This accounts for 23.35 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 7,971. The death toll in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 1,652 deaths.
