The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.84 million cases by Friday, June 10, 2022. Paraguay ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 262.14 percent. GISAID recorded 507 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 14.97 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Paraguay is the Philippines, in second place. Compared to the previous week, new Omicron cases in the country grew by 247.54 percent. The number of new Omicron cases reported in the country is 6,989. Daily statistics show a 238.29 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 2,066 cases.
Next is Angola with 117 new Omicron cases (a 200% increase), Uganda with 123 new Omicron cases (a 192.86% increase), and Bulgaria with 5,023 new Omicron cases (a 96.06% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of new Omicron cases recorded to date is 11,491, a 0.13 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
