Omicron variant Covid-19 cases have continued to spread in DKI Jakarta over the past month. This has resulted in a surge in active Covid-19 cases in the capital city.
The Covid-19 Task Force report shows that active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 12,328 cases as of January 20, 2022. DKI Jakarta contributed 45% of the national active Covid-19 cases, totaling 5,548 cases.
West Java ranks second as the province with the most active cases of coronavirus infection, with 1,921 cases. Banten and Central Java each have 1,226 and 1,079 active Covid-19 cases, respectively.
Next, Lampung and Riau have 526 and 319 active Covid-19 cases, respectively. East Java, Riau Islands, Bali, and North Sulawesi are also among the provinces with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases, with 250, 229, 192, and 151 cases respectively.
The total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 4,121,117 cases by January 20, 2022. 3.37% of these cases resulted in death, and 96.34% have recovered.
The widespread transmission of Covid-19 cases, especially the Omicron variant, should be a cause for concern. This new coronavirus variant has a significantly higher transmission rate than the Delta variant.
Therefore, the public needs to implement the 3M health protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
