Bandung City's Active Covid-19 Cases Surge by 113%

The spread of the coronavirus is skyrocketing in Indonesia, including Bandung City. In one month, the Bandung City Covid-19 Information Center reported an 113% surge in active Covid-19 patients in Bandung requiring treatment and self-isolation.

The explosion of Covid-19 cases in Bandung City occurred after the Idul Fitri holiday. On May 18, 2021, there were 556 active cases. The number decreased slightly in the following days, but climbed again to 1,182 cases by June 18, 2021.

Quoting Antara, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated that Bandung Raya (Bandung City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and Sumedang Regency) is on Covid-19 alert level 1. As a result, the area is categorized as a red zone.

The bed occupancy rate (BOR) of Covid-19 referral hospitals in the city is dwindling, reaching 84.2% occupancy by Tuesday, June 15, 2021. This figure is above the national BOR of 70% and exceeds the World Health Organization (WHO)'s safe limit of 60%.

The government continues to urge the public to adhere to the 3M protocol to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The public needs to adopt the habit of wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and washing hands with soap and running water.
