Based on the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) by the Ministry of Health, the prevalence of stunting in Maluku reached 26.1% in 2022. This figure places the province 13th nationally.
Maluku reduced its stunting rate by 2.6 percentage points from the previous year. In the 2021 SSGI, the prevalence of stunting in the province was 28.7%.
However, the stunting rate in Maluku is still considered high because it exceeds the threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO) standard of 20%.
Based on its regions, six regencies have a stunting prevalence above the Maluku average. The remaining five regencies/cities are below the provincial average.
Buru Selatan Regency had the highest prevalence of stunting in Maluku in the 2022 SSGI, reaching 41.6%. This figure increased by 2.5 percentage points from 39.1% in 2021.
Kepulauan Tanimbar Regency ranked second with the highest prevalence of stunting in Maluku at 31.5%, followed by Kepulauan Aru Regency with a stunting prevalence of 28.1%.
The lowest prevalence of stunting in Maluku was in Ambon City at 21.1%.

6. Kepuluan Kei Regency: 26.8%
7. Maluku Barat Daya Regency: 25.7%
8. Tual City: 24.9%
9. Seram Bagian Timur Regency: 24.1%
10. Buru Regency: 23.3%
11. Ambon City: 21.1%
