As the population grows, the need for healthcare services increases. The presence of Hospitals (RS) is crucial in providing healthcare services to the community.
Based on data from the Ministry of Health, the total number of hospitals throughout Indonesia reached 2,813 units by the end of 2018. This number consists of 2,269 general hospitals and 544 specialized hospitals. For information, the number of hospitals in 2010 only reached 1,632 units.
The highest number of hospitals is located in East Java, reaching 381 hospitals, consisting of 293 general hospitals and 88 specialized hospitals. The second highest number is in West Java, with 350 hospitals, consisting of 285 general hospitals and 65 specialized hospitals.

Meanwhile, West Papua, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, and North Kalimantan provinces have the fewest hospitals, as shown in the graph. These newly formed provinces have less than 20 hospital units.
