The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.56 million cases by Monday, July 25, 2022. Iceland recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 9,560 percent. GISAID recorded 483 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 9,560 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Libya, which recorded a 125 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 125 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, Taiwan with 160 additional Omicron cases (up 66.67%), Mozambique with 223 additional Omicron cases (up 17.99%), and Germany with 363,820 additional Omicron cases (up 8.62%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 16,425, a 0.48 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the surge in Omicron cases worldwide. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
