Kurious Survey: Majority of Indonesians Agree the Covid-19 Era is Over

Based on a survey by the Kurious-Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the majority of Indonesian citizens agree that the Covid-19 pandemic era has ended.

77% of respondents said they agreed that the Covid-19 situation was over. Specifically, 50.4% of respondents said they agreed and 26.6% strongly agreed.

On the other hand, 17.3% of respondents said they disagreed that the Covid-19 situation was over. In detail, 13.8% said they disagreed and 3.5% strongly disagreed. Another 5.7% of respondents said they didn't know.

Previously, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued Presidential Decree Number 17 of 2023 on the Termination of the Status of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Pandemic in Indonesia. This Presidential Decree came into effect on June 21, 2023.

“Declaring the status of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic to be over and changing the factual status of Corona Virus Disease 2019 to an endemic disease in Indonesia,” the Presidential Decree stated.

Through this Presidential Decree, Jokowi also revoked the declaration of a public health emergency and the designation of the Covid-19 outbreak as a national disaster.

The Kurious-KIC survey was conducted on 734 respondents spread across various regions of Indonesia, with 47.3% male respondents and 52.7% female respondents.

More than half of the respondents were from Java Island excluding Jakarta (63.2%), followed by Jakarta (14.4%), and Sumatra Island (12.1%). The proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.8% to 3.4%.

Most respondents were aged between 35-44 years (33.1%), followed by the 25-34 year age group (31.6%) and the 45-54 year age group (20.2%).

The survey was conducted from June 26 to July 3, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method, with a margin of error of approximately 3.61% and a 95% confidence level.
