Based on national Covid-19 data, 143 regencies/cities aggressively conducted Covid-19 tests above the national average. Data as of Friday, December 9, 2022, shows a national average of 0.61 tests per 1,000 people per week.
The top five, starting from the highest, are South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, Balikpapan, East Jakarta, and South Tangerang, with 6.79, 6.49, 5.59, 4.76, and 4.44 tests per 1,000 people per week, respectively.
South Jakarta ranks first, with 6.79 tests per 1,000 people per week. The latest positive rate is 9.97 percent, down from the previous week.
Next is Central Jakarta, with a population of 913,720. In efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, 6.49 tests per 1,000 people per week were conducted. The positive rate is 10.88 percent, also down from the previous week.
Balikpapan recorded 5.59 tests per 1,000 people per week, East Jakarta 4.76, and South Tangerang 4.44.
In anticipation of the Omicron variant's impact, national Covid-19 data shows 120 regencies/cities actively reporting higher daily test numbers than before. Meanwhile, 206 other regencies/cities recorded lower test numbers compared to the previous week.
Outside Java, areas with the highest number of tests include Balikpapan (5.59 tests per 1,000 people per week), Gunungsitoli (3.55), and Badung (3.52).
Although Covid-19 transmission has decreased in some areas, the government urges everyone to continue reducing transmission by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
