Extension of PPKM Outside Java and Bali; 23 Regions Remain at Level 4

The Indonesian government extended the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) from September 7th to 13th, 2021. During this period, 23 regencies/cities outside Java and Bali implemented PPKM level 4, down from 34 the previous week.

These 23 regencies/cities implementing PPKM level 4 are located in 14 provinces: Banda Aceh City, Aceh Tamiang, and Aceh Besar in Aceh; Medan City, Sibolga City, and Mandailing Natal in North Sumatra; Padang City in West Sumatra; Jambi City in Jambi; and Bangka in Bangka Belitung Islands.

Furthermore, Banjarbaru City, Banjarmasin City, and Kotabaru in South Kalimantan; Palangkaraya City in Central Kalimantan; Balikpapan City, Kutai Kartanegara, and Mahakam Ulu in East Kalimantan;

Then, Tarakan City in North Kalimantan; Makassar City in South Sulawesi; Palu City and Poso in Central Sulawesi; Bolaang Mongondow in North Sulawesi; Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara; and Manokwari in West Papua.

Meanwhile, 314 regencies/cities outside Java and Bali implemented PPKM level 3, an increase from 303 the previous week.

Forty-nine regencies/cities outside Java and Bali implemented PPKM level 2, unchanged from the previous week.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto stated that areas outside Java and Bali had 155,519 active COVID-19 cases as of September 5th, 2021, contributing 60% to the total active cases in Indonesia.

The recovery rate for COVID-19 patients outside Java and Bali was 90%, while the mortality rate was 2.99%.

To curb the spread of COVID-19, the public is urged to adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is encouraged to reduce mobility and avoid crowds.
