Which Country Has the Highest Number of Tuberculosis Sufferers?

Based on World Health Organization (WHO) data, the number of new tuberculosis (TB) cases in 2015 reached 10.4 million, an increase from the previous 9.6 million. The highest number of TB cases was found in India with 2.8 million, followed by Indonesia with 1.02 million cases and China with 918,000 cases.

The Global Tuberculosis Report 2016 reported that the number of deaths due to TB in Indonesia reached 100,000 per year, in addition to 26,000 TB sufferers who were HIV-positive. Globally, the number of deaths caused by the *Mycobacterium tuberculosis* bacterium reached 1.4 million, plus 390,000 HIV-positive sufferers. The prevalence of TB in Indonesia in 2015 was 395 per 100,000 population, with a mortality rate of 40 per 100,000 population.

TB is airborne and has killed many people. Therefore, WHO aims to reduce the number of new cases by 80 percent starting in 2016 and reduce TB deaths by 90 percent by 2030.
