Restaurant Visits Decrease in Several Cities During the Second Transitional PSBB

Independent Research Institute's research shows that visits to restaurants decreased in several cities during the second phase of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) transition period. These cities include Makassar, Surabaya, Medan, Jakarta, and Denpasar.

Restaurant visits in Jakarta dropped to 44% during the period of October 9-17, 2020, which coincided with the second phase of the PSBB transition. This is a decrease from 54% during the period of September 9-13, 2020, before the second phase of the PSBB.

In Makassar, restaurant visits decreased from 68% before the second phase of the PSBB to 47% during the second phase of the PSBB transition. Similarly, in Surabaya, visits dropped from 62% to 52% during the same period.

In Medan, restaurant visits decreased from 58% before the second phase of the PSBB to 49% during the second phase of the PSBB transition. Meanwhile, in Denpasar, visits dropped from 48% to 44%.

Conversely, two other cities in this research showed an increase in restaurant visits: Bekasi and Bogor.

This research was conducted from October 9-17, 2020, using a 'live tracking' method and collecting data from 7,217 retail locations and 9,362 restaurants in 8 major cities. Retail and restaurant visit figures were obtained through 'live-visit data' from Google Maps.
