The Number of Residents Experiencing Health Complaints Decreased in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the percentage of the Indonesian population experiencing health complaints has decreased over the past two years. In 2021, 27.23% of the population reported having health complaints in the past month.

This figure indicates that 27 out of every 100 Indonesians experienced health complaints in the past month. This percentage represents a decrease of 3.73 percentage points from the previous year, which stood at 30.96%.

The initial decline in health complaints occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The percentage of the population reporting health complaints decreased by 1.4 percentage points from 2019, when it was 32.36%.

By gender, women are more prone to experiencing health complaints. The percentage of women with health complaints was 28.32%, while for men it was 26.15%.

The higher rate of health complaints among women is likely related to increased stress and anxiety since the spread of COVID-19. This aligns with data published by UN Women in 2020, which indicated that increased stress among women during the pandemic was due to their having to care for sick family members.
