This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Seven countries still recorded an increase in deaths this week, while eight others saw a decrease.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Paraguay, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Peru. A total of 2,751 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Thursday, December 8, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 40.66 percent.
Paraguay recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 150 percent. Worldometer recorded 25 deaths in the country, a 177.78 percent increase compared to the previous day.
The United States follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 81.33 percent. Daily death figures increased by 25.47% compared to the previous day, which recorded 1,386 deaths.
Furthermore, deaths in Mexico increased by 50.98%, Brazil recorded 782 deaths (a 45.62% increase), and deaths in Peru increased by 40.66%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days occurred in the United States, with 1,739 deaths. Reported deaths in the country increased by 81.33% compared to the previous week. Following this, Brazil reported the second highest number of deaths with 782 (up 45.62%), Canada with 188 deaths (down 39.94%), Chile with 183 deaths (down 6.63%), and Peru with 128 deaths (up 40.66%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were recorded at 3,159. This accounts for 38.55 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 8,194. The number of deaths in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 2,207 deaths.
