This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, eight countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 15 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Azerbaijan, Vietnam, China (PRC), Lebanon, and Iran (Islamic Republic). The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, December 27, 2022, amounted to 34, with weekly growth exceeding 83.33 percent.
Azerbaijan ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 116.67 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 13 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported six deaths.
Vietnam follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 100 percent. Meanwhile, the daily death toll decreased by 20% compared to the previous day's recorded five deaths.
Next is China (PRC) with four deaths (up 100%), Lebanon with two deaths (up 100%), and Iran (Islamic Republic) with 11 deaths (up 83.33%).
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 2,043 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 22.34% compared to the previous week. Following with the highest numbers is South Korea with 398 deaths (up 18.81%), Hong Kong with 299 deaths (up 32.3%), Taiwan with 200 deaths (down 1.48%), and the Philippines with 168 deaths (down 12.5%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 3,470. This accounts for 34.64 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,016. The death toll in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,092 deaths.
