This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. Six countries recorded increased deaths this week, while two others saw a decrease in the number of deaths.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Hong Kong, India, Israel, South Korea, and Lebanon. A total of 299 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Tuesday, April 25, 2023, representing a weekly growth of over 14.29 percent.
Hong Kong recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 100 percent. Worldometer recorded 18 deaths in the country, an 80 percent increase compared to the previous day.
India follows with a weekly growth in deaths reaching 26.97 percent, reporting 193 deaths. Daily statistics show a 2.66% increase in deaths compared to the previous day's 188 deaths.
Next are Israel with 29 deaths (up 20.83%), South Korea with 51 deaths (up 15.91%), and Lebanon with eight deaths (up 14.29%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the past seven days in Asia occurred in India with 193 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 26.97% compared to the previous week. Following India, Japan reported the highest number of deaths with 145 (up 8.21%), Indonesia recorded 53 deaths (down 26.39%), South Korea recorded 51 deaths (up 15.91%), and Israel recorded 29 deaths (up 20.83%).
A total of 503 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 22.12 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 2,274 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 461 deaths.
