This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, two countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Iran (Islamic Republic), the Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, and Japan. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, March 11, 2023, was 630, with a weekly growth rate above -21.34 percent.
Iran (Islamic Republic) recorded the highest increase in Covid-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 111.43 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 74 deaths, a 7.25 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Next is the Philippines, which recorded 5.26 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. Daily data shows that deaths in this country decreased by 3.23% compared to the previous day. Meanwhile, deaths in South Korea decreased by 7.06%, Indonesia recorded 19 deaths (down 17.39%), and Japan recorded 398 deaths (down 21.34%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 398 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 21.34% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, South Korea reported the highest number of deaths with 79 (down 7.06%), followed by Iran (Islamic Republic) with 74 deaths (up 111.43%), the Philippines with 60 deaths (up 5.26%), and Israel with 26 deaths (down 25.71%).
A total of 683 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 19.8 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 3,450 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 794 deaths.
