Data from the Ministry of Health, processed by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), shows that Indonesia had 1.4 million healthcare workers in 2022.
Of this number, the majority were nurses, totaling 563,000. This was followed by midwives with 336,000.
Medical personnel occupied the third position with 176,000. This includes doctors, dentists, specialist doctors, and specialist dentists, both domestic and foreign, recognized by the government in accordance with Law No. 29 of 2004 concerning Medical Practice.
Next are pharmaceutical personnel or pharmacists, numbering 121,000, followed by biomedical personnel with 75,000.
Among the various healthcare professions, the smallest numbers were clinical psychologists with 1,200 and traditional healthcare workers with 422.
