After the revocation of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM), there were still 9,131 active Covid-19 cases throughout Indonesia on January 2, 2023. This figure decreased by 446 cases from the previous day.
The majority of active Covid-19 cases at the beginning of the new year were in Central Java, namely 2,882 cases or 31.56% of the total national active cases.
West Java ranked second with 2,216 active Covid-19 cases, and DKI Jakarta ranked third with 911 active cases.
The next highest number of active cases were in East Java, Banten, Yogyakarta Special Region, North Sulawesi, Lampung, North Sumatra, and Gorontalo, with details as shown in the graph.
Meanwhile, the fewest active Covid-19 cases were recorded in West Sulawesi and South Sulawesi. Both provinces each recorded only 7 active cases.
Overall, from the beginning of the pandemic until January 2, 2023, approximately 6.72 million people have been infected with Covid-19 in Indonesia, 2.39% of whom died and 97.47% recovered.
President Jokowi stated that the government had conducted a study for the past 10 months before deciding to revoke the PPKM at the end of 2022. "We can control Covid, so we decided to revoke the PPKM," Jokowi said, as quoted by CNN Indonesia, Monday (2/1/2023).
Jokowi hopes that the revocation of the PPKM will encourage Indonesia's economic conditions to grow better in 2023.
