The highest increase in confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Papua currently occurred in Supiori, with nine cases per 100,000 people per week as of Sunday, May 22, 2022. This figure is three times higher than the second-highest region.
The COVID-19 transmission situation in Supiori appears to be unimproved. The Ministry of Health recorded no weekly cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the region the previous week.
Mimika is next, recording two weekly confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Compared to the previous week, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases this week is still higher, indicating no improvement.
Rounding out the top five are Jayapura, Puncak Jaya, and Nabire, recording two cases, 0.76 cases, and 0.67 cases per week, respectively.
According to the Ministry of Health's list, the next five districts/cities in the top ten are Merauke, Jayapura City, Sarmi, and Dogiyai. These areas recorded an average increase of over 0.32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The good news from the province is that 21 districts/cities recorded no increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week.
Other information from today's daily COVID-19 data statistics shows that 116 districts/cities in Indonesia recorded a higher increase compared to the previous week, and 167 other districts/cities recorded lower weekly confirmations than the previous week.
Furthermore, 274 districts/cities in Indonesia currently report no confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week.
