This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, with the death toll continuing to rise. This week, 13 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded deaths but in smaller numbers.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, Iran (Islamic Republic), and Israel. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, July 8, 2022, amounted to 185, with a weekly growth exceeding 108.51 percent.
Sri Lanka recorded the highest increase in deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 300 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded four deaths, a 33.33 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Following Sri Lanka is Bangladesh, with weekly death growth reaching 290 percent. The number of deaths in this country was reported as 39. Daily death statistics showed a 2.5% decrease compared to the previous day, which recorded 40 deaths.
Next is Singapore with 13 deaths (up 160%), Iran (Islamic Republic) with 31 deaths (up 158.33%), and Israel with deaths increasing by 108.51%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Taiwan with 677 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 18.82% compared to the previous week. Following Taiwan, India recorded 204 deaths (up 10.27%), Thailand recorded 130 deaths (up 23.81%), Israel recorded 98 deaths (up 108.51%), and Japan recorded 97 deaths (down 48.68%).
Total deaths in Asia over the last seven days were recorded at 1,555. This accounts for 16.26 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 9,564 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 1,639 deaths.
