10 Most Expensive Countries to Live In, 2018

Singapore is once again the world's most expensive city in 2018. Based on research by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the cost of living index in the Lion City reached 116, the highest among the 133 cities surveyed. This means that the cost of living in Singapore is 16% higher than in New York (index=100), the world's largest city and the benchmark.

The average price of bread in Singapore is Rp 50,827/kg with an exchange rate of Rp 13,700/US dollar. Meanwhile, the price of table wine is Rp 324,416/750 ml, branded cigarettes are Rp 132,342/pack, and fuel is Rp 21,372/liter.

Of the 10 most expensive cities listed below, four are in Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Tel Aviv. Five are in Europe: Paris, Zurich, Oslo, Geneva, and Copenhagen. One is in Australia: Sydney. The cost of living in all these cities is higher than in New York.
