This week's COVID-19 statistics in Europe show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, seven countries still recorded an increase in deaths, while 22 others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Sweden, Montenegro, Portugal, Spain, and Russia. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, September 6, 2022, amounted to 965, with a weekly growth exceeding 15.65 percent.
Sweden recorded the highest increase in deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 200 percent. Worldometer recorded six deaths in the country, an increase compared to the previous week's two deaths.
Next is Montenegro, which recorded 40 percent more deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported seven more deaths than the previous week's five. Deaths in Portugal increased by 17.07%, Spain by 276 deaths (up 16.95%), and Russia by 15.65%.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany with 658 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 14.83% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, Russia reported the highest number of deaths with 628 (up 15.65%), followed by Italy with 485 deaths (down 20.49%), France with 300 deaths (down 14.29%), and Spain with 276 deaths (up 16.95%).
Total deaths in Europe over the past seven days were recorded at 3,443. This accounts for 28.38 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 12,133. The number of deaths in Europe decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,553 deaths.
