Top 5 Countries with the Most Omicron Cases Worldwide (Wednesday, January 19, 2022)

The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the COVID-19 virus is spreading globally, reaching 383,770 cases by Wednesday, January 19, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United Kingdom has recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, at 181,170. This represents 47.21% of the total global Omicron cases.

The United States follows, with a weekly growth rate of 46.19% in Omicron cases. Daily figures show a 5.13% increase compared to the previous day, reaching 119,280 cases.

Furthermore, Denmark saw a 43.09% increase in Omicron cases to 26,121 compared to the previous week; France experienced an 81.45% increase to 8,234 cases; and Canada saw a 118.21% rise to 5,872 cases compared to the previous week.

In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 877, a 25.29% increase from the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.

The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
