The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.26 million cases by Thursday, March 17, 2022. Seychelles leads with a 7,500 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 152 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1,588.89 percent compared to the previous day.
Greece follows with a 230.31 percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. Daily figures show a 230.31 percent increase compared to the previous day, with 937 new cases recorded.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Iran (Islamic Republic) increased by 202.59 percent to 351 cases compared to the previous week. Omicron cases in Algeria increased by 192.86 percent to 41 cases compared to the previous week, and in Slovakia, Omicron cases increased by 105.85 percent to 7,038 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, a total of 8,423 Omicron cases have been recorded, representing a 1.81 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
